Waiting on Wednesday is a meme where we have the opportunity to let others know about books that we are eagerly waiting for.

Hosted by Breaking the Spine

Title: Little Monsters
Author: Kara Thomas
Genre: YA, Thriller
Publisher: Delacorte Press

Releases On: July 25th 2017!

Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls. When she moved in with her father, she stepped into a brand-new life. A life with a stepbrother, a stepmother, and strangest of all, an adoring younger half sister.

Kacey’s new life is eerily charming compared with the wild highs and lows of the old one she lived with her volatile mother. And everyone is so nice in Broken Falls—she’s even been welcomed into a tight new circle of friends. Bailey and Jade invite her to do everything with them.

Which is why it’s so odd when they start acting distant. And when they don’t invite her to the biggest party of the year, it doesn’t exactly feel like an accident.

But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly, Broken Falls doesn’t seem so welcoming after all—especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers.

Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you’re the new girl, you shouldn’t trust anyone.

Why I'm Waiting: This one sounds pretty creepy!  I love books when you aren't sure who to trust, and for some reason I really love mean girls in thrillers.  I read that this is a good one for fans of Pretty Little Liars, but strangely I've never watched the show.  Everyone says I would love it.

I'm falling a bit behind on my reading lately.  I'm going to blame the warm weather. lol!  I've got a lot of reading to get through next month so hopefully I can get myself in gear again.

I've also been failing at posting reviews for every book I read.  I definitely read more than 11 books this month but I'm not always the best with sitting down and writing a review when I am finished.  Hopefully I can get better with that!

What you can expect in June:
Well, I got REALLY click happy on NetGalley this month so I have A LOT of books to review.  I'm hoping I can keep up.  I've got 12 ARCs scheduled throughout the month.  They are a mixture of YA, romances, fantasy, and a thriller.  I have a little bit of everything.  With so many books to read in June, I'm going to have a pretty hard time trying to keep up with my Backlist challenge but I'm going to try!  I have a couple of the ARCs read, reviewed, and scheduled already so hopefully that gives me a little extra time.

I've also got some fun Top Ten Tues/list posts and Waiting on Wednesday posts scheduled in advance.  I will also be sharing another one of my art posts.  I think I will be sharing Iron Man/Tony Stark next!

Title: Lucky In Love
Author: Kasie West
Genre: YA
Publisher: Scholastic

Releases On: July 25th 2017!

Find It On Goodreads

In this new contemporary from YA star Kasie West, a girl who wins the lottery learns that money can cause more problems than it solves, especially when love comes into the picture.

Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment --

She wins!

In a flash, Maddie's life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she's talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun... until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn't sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn't seem aware of Maddie's big news. And, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

Why I'm waiting: I'm a sucker for swoon-worthy, light-hearted romances and I hear Kasie West is the queen of those.  I own The Fill-In Boyfriend from this author but I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet.  I've seen a few early reviews and they seem pretty positive so I'm excited about this one.  Also, Kasie West has the most adorable covers for her books ever! lol

One Last Chance...

THROUGH YOUR EYES
For Your Love #3
Shannyn Schroeder
Releasing May 30th, 2017
Zebra Shout

ONE LAST CHANCE

Deirdre Murphy has had her life planned for her since she was born: Work in her parents’ noisy pub in rural Ireland. Live with her family until she marries. Marry her childhood sweetheart ASAP, since he’s decided sexy fun time should wait for marriage. None of it excites her. But before her fate closes in, Deirdre’s got one last visit to her Chicago cousins—where she can spend her mornings in a peaceful bakery, keep to herself, and savor the space she needs…. Until she meets Tommy O’Malley.

Tommy is as tough as his city and twice as ready to welcome her in. He’s covered in tattoos, stays up half the night inking them on other people, and has a reputation for being good with his hands. And he’s heart-pounding, forgot-her-words, can’t-stop-staring exciting.

Tommy knows he’s the opposite of everything Deirdre has prepared for. But to watch her set herself free, he’s willing to risk almost anything…

Excerpt
He drove to the bakery and found a parking spot in front. It was near closing and the business was empty.
He walked through the door and a sweet scent filled the air. The place hadn’t changed much over the years. The fake cakes they had on display were different, changing with the times, showing popular themes, but the classics remained on a high shelf near the ceiling.
One of his earliest memories was coming here with his dad and Jimmy to pick out his birthday cake. His dad had hoisted him up on his shoulders and told him to pick any cake design he wanted. He couldn’t have been more than four or five. It wasn’t long after his mom had been killed, but the memory was such a happy one. He didn’t remember feeling sad.
That realization made him feel crappy.
No one came from the back, so he called out, “Hello? I’m here to pick up a cake.”
From the back room, with her head down, she came toward him.
“Cupcake,” he whispered.
She moved to the counter opposite him and turned her back to dig through a stack of order slips. Her reddish-brown hair trailed down her back in a ponytail. Without any greeting, she asked, “Name?”
“O’Malley.”
She spun with the pink slips in her hand. Her light blue eyes were wide, and the sprinkling of freckles across her nose reminded him how cute she was.
“You’re back,” he said.
Another cake for O’Malley?”
He lifted a shoulder. “There are five of us.”
“It’s good to know you’re not eating all this cake. I was beginning to think you had a wicked sweet tooth.”
“Uh, your cousin Moira told me you went back to Ireland.”
The papers in her hands crinkled, and a blush swept across her cheeks. “I did.”
“Are you staying long?”
“I’m not sure.” She focused on the slips, flipping through them, looking for his order.
When she found it, she pulled it from the stack and looked up. She waved it at him with a smile. “I’ll be right back.”
She disappeared to the back room, and Tommy sucked in a deep breath. This was it. He had another chance. All he had to do was open his mouth.
Why hadn’t Moira said anything? She knew he had a thing for her cousin. Maybe she was the one who’d put Jimmy up to making him get the cake. That definitely sounded like a Moira move. But to get Jimmy involved, that took skill. Moira was obviously better than he’d given her credit for.
Deirdre returned carrying a box. She slid it on the counter between them and lifted the lid. “Here you go.”
He barely glanced at it. No one would care if something was misspelled. His gaze locked on hers as she lowered the lid.
“Would you like to go out sometime?”
She stared for him so long, he began to wonder if he'd really spoken aloud.
“Uh . . . I have a boyfriend.”
“Oh.” The disappointment hit him hard. Again, he had to question why Moira wouldn’t tell him. This was the kind of pertinent information you gave a guy before he made a fool of himself.
“Your order is all paid for.” She nudged the box forward so he’d take the hint.
He scrambled for what to say to ease the tension. “Maybe you’d like to go out and do some sightseeing. As friends. You’re new to Chicago, and I could show you around.”
“Maybe.” Her eyes shifted away. It seemed no matter what he said, he made her nervous.
“Are staying with the O’Learys again?”
“Yes.”
“I’m right across the street. Stop by any time.”
She nodded and he took the cake from the counter. Not quite the answer he was looking for, but at least she hadn’t totally shot him down. She didn’t seem completely uninterested.
But boyfriend?

10 Most Anticipated Books for the Second Half of 2017

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

I am linking up today at The Broke and the Bookish's link up "Top Ten Tuesday".  They have a different topic every week and it's a lot of fun to meet some new bloggers and find a bunch of new books to add to my list!  This week's topic is: 10 Most Anticipated Books For The Second Half of 2017.

I tried to put a little bit of everything on my list this time around.  There are so many great books coming out that I had a really hard time narrowing it down.  I put a few of my auto-buy authors and a couple books that are part of a series that I've been reading.  I separated my list into 5 YA releases and 5 romance releases.

What books are you looking forward to in the 2nd half of 2017?

Review: Heels Over Head by Elyse Springer

Title: Heels Over Head
Author: Elyse Springer
Genre: MM Romance
Publisher: Riptide Publishing
Publication Date: May 29th, 2017

Jeremy Reeve is one of the best divers in the world, and he’s worked hard to get where he is. He intends to keep pushing himself with one very clear goal in mind: winning gold at the summer Olympics in two years. That medal might be the only way to earn his father’s respect as an athlete.

Brandon Evans is everything Jeremy isn’t: carefree, outgoing, and openly gay. With his bright-blue eyes and dramatic tattoos, he’s a temptation that Jeremy refuses to acknowledge. But Jeremy can’t ignore how talented Brandon is—or that Brandon has no interest in using his diving skills to compete.

They’re opposites who are forced to work together as teammates, but Jeremy’s fear of his own sexuality and Brandon’s disinterest in anything “not fun” may end their partnership before it begins. Until a single moment changes everything, and they help each other discover that “team” can also mean family and love.

Jeremy is a very focused and dedicated diver with goals to one day compete in the Olympics.  He trains with one of the best trainers in the world and keeps his eye on the prize.  That is, until Brandon walks into their training one day and his trainer decides to take him on as well.  Jeremy is not only annoyed because now the trainer will have to split the focus between the two of them, but also because Brandon represents everything that he pushes away inside of himself.  Brandon is out and proud and is just all about a good time.  Jeremy comes from a family that uses the term "fag" to describe anyone they find weak, and they constantly harass him for being in a sport for "fairies".  Because of this, Jeremy has always pushed himself to be the greatest because he wants his family to finally be proud of him and respect him.  He doesn't like any distractions from his goal, and Brandon is a big distraction.  They are both instantly attracted to one another, but Jeremy treat Brandon poorly to keep him at arms length.

Eventually their training coach wants them to start training together to compete in a synchronized diving event, which means they will have to work closely together. Brandon is determined to break down his walls and have Jeremy take him seriously.  Jeremy finds himself unable to keep pushing him away but also torn by his need to win the Olympic gold to make his family proud.

I had some trouble with this one, if I'm being honest.  The pacing felt really off for me.  At times the story would really drag on and then other times were were jumping ahead months when I really wanted to see what was going to happen in that moment.  It was a little frustrating.  I also had a really hard time liking Jeremy through most of this book.  He's just so nasty and cold to everyone around him, even his supposed best friend.  He even goes as far as to say that if it came down to picking an Olympic medal over his relationship with Brandon, he would chose the medal....and this wasn't something he said early on.  That was said rather late in the story.  I couldn't root for him.

The highlights of the story for me were Brandon and Valerie.  Brandon was the shining light in this one for me.  He tried to always remain positive, and he was really tough.  Even when things got really difficult for him he didn't break down and he figured out what his next step was going to be.  He was stubborn about asking for help, but I can really relate to that.  Valerie was another diver that their coach ended up taking on, and also Jeremy's only real friend.  I liked that she always looked out for both Jeremy and Brandon, and genuinely worried about them hurting each other.

I have to say that I thought the story also ended really abruptly.  I wanted to know what happened!  We hear about the Olympics the entire book and then we don't even get to know how it goes?!  An epilogue would have been great, because at the end I would say they are at the HFN stage, not a true HEA.  I've said it a million times and I can't help it, but I like things to be wrapped up neatly at the end of the story and I didn't think we got that.

Life Lately:
I'm on a bit of a requesting freeze right now until I'm able to catch up on the ARCs that I already have, and tackle some of the books on my backlist.  I can't take all the credit for the restraint on adding books this week tho.  If I'm being honest, it's because I had another one of my ocular migraines and it really kicked my butt.  I barely even touched the computer for a couple days.  I've still got a bit of the migraine hangover feeling (after a bad migraine I feel really drained and achy) but I'm back on my feet and trying to catch up.

On a happy note, I won The Love Interest!!  I haven't shut up about wanting to get this book lately, so I was really excited to have won it.  I can't wait to check it out.

Next week is vacation week!!  I've scheduled posts for the week, and I will try to check in every once in a while but I will definitely be playing catchup again.  I will most likely be missing next week's STS/Sunday Post tho because I will be on the 2 night romantic getaway with my hubby.  So excited!!  Maybe I'll schedule a post in advance...we'll see what happens.

Declan, the sexy, driven powerhouse meets the one woman immune to his charm . . .

FEEL ME
O'Brien Family #4
Cecy Robson
Releasing May 23, 2017

RT Book Reviews proclaims that the O’Brien Family series from award-winning author Cecy Robson “has the hottest brothers ever!” And in FEEL ME, Declan, the sexy, driven powerhouse meets the one woman immune to his charm . . .

Declan O’Brien was always driven to take his place among Philly’s elite, working hard for everything he’s earned, including the title of Assistant District Attorney. He’s won seemingly impossible cases, so he’s furious when he’s assigned to lead the one unit he doesn’t want.

Melissa Fenske was born hearing impaired to a neglectful mother, finding solace when she was adopted by a young attorney, now Declan’s boss. As the current Director of Victim Services, Melissa’s livid when Declan is placed in the main unit she oversees. She can’t forget their disastrous first encounter. Or shake how he makes her feel.

Declan considers the assignment another step toward his political aspirations, despite that he can’t get Melissa out of his mind. Melissa sees Declan as egotistical and self-serving, kicking herself for how fast she’s falling for him. Someone as hot, smooth, and perfect as Declan isn’t supposed to want her.

In another situation with any other woman, Declan wouldn’t hesitate to take Melissa to bed. But she is the boss’s daughter, and for once, Declan finds himself wanting more than just a one night stand.

Neither counted on each other. Both just met their match.

Excerpt
My hands fall to my lap. “I suppose now is a good time to tell you what I’m looking for,” I say quietly.
“What you’re looking for?” he asks.
I tilt my chin, wondering why he seems confused. “Well, yes. I have certain needs that I’m hoping you’ll help me with.”
His grip to his pen tightens. “Needs? For yourself?”
“For my unit,” I clarify. I wish like his brother, Declan also understood American Sign Language. Then I could sign and not give away how nervous I sometimes feel around him. I roll my ankle, trying to shake off some of my anxiety. For all he drives me crazy, he’s doing a hell of a job making me feel self-conscious. That doesn’t mean I’ll cower or stay quiet. “It’s my understanding that the assistant D.A.s currently assigned to SACU are burnt out and requesting reassignment.”
“That’s right,” he says, his expression sour. “Just a few hours on the job and I’ve already received transfer requests in writing.”
“I’d like to help select their replacements.” “Excuse me?” he asks.
Okay, here we go. Boob appreciation hour is officially over. “I’m not trying to step on your toes.”
“But?” he asks, leaning back against his chair.
“But nothing. I respect that the decision is ultimately yours. I’m only asking for the opportunity to provide input.” He keeps his expression neutral, and I can’t be sure he’s listening. I force myself to continue. “There have been a few new hires, and a few D.A.s looking to be challenged. I’d like to observe them in court and see how they perform on their feet. More importantly, I want to observe how they interact with victims of the more violent crimes.”
Declan appears anything but pleased. Either I’ve pissed him off or I’ve pushed him into something he’s not ready for. “I’m going to lay it right out for you,” he says, his tone matter-of fact. “SACU is the unit attorneys least want. I’m surprised the A.D.A.s currently there have lasted as long as they have.”
All right. I did annoy him. “They’ve lasted because it takes a while to become acclimated,” I counter. “But once there, they realize their importance and how much the victims and their families depend on them to help them through the process.”
“I’m not saying the work or the victims aren’t important. What I’m saying is no one is exactly begging to work there.”
“I realize SACU is the last place our attorneys want to be placed,” I say, staring straight at him. “Especially those who enter this office strictly to make connections and jump start their political careers. But it’s one of the most important units because of the sensitive subject matter and the degree of violence we see.”
I don’t mean to be so blunt, and maybe he doesn’t either, but here we sit with our gazes locked and the tension between us escalating.
Damn it. Dad wants us to work as a team. But the more we speak, the more I’m reminded Declan doesn’t want to be a part of this unit, and nowhere near me.
I inadvertently trail my fingers above the collar of my dress, it’s a nervous habit, much like when women tuck a strand of their hair behind their ear. But I never tuck my hair with my hearing aids in place. Any sound that brushes too close to the receiver such as the movement of hair, putting on a hat, resting my head against a pillow, even an intimate whisper, creates back noise similar to nails on a chalkboard.
My fingertips stroke close to the swell of my right breast as I think our situation through. I freeze when I realize Declan’s stare is following each subtle movement.
This is too weird. No way can Declan O’Brien be eyeing me like he wants to take a lick.
I ran into him at a restaurant a few weeks back. I was picking up takeout following a five mile run, still wearing the shorts and sports bra I ran in. Of course I had to see him. And of course he had to look good . . . and so did the blonde on his arm. She was a total stick and all legs, wearing a dress I don’t think I could have shoved my left breast into. I’m so not his type. So then why . . .
“I’ll allow the input,” he says.
“I’m sorry?”
“I’ll allow the input,” he says, a little louder.
This time I don’t correct him. I didn’t hear him, too busy watching him watch me which is absolutely ridiculous―ludicrous even―and good God, why does he have to look so good in that damn suit!
“Thank you,” I say, tripping over the word.
